Chinese New Year Parade - London 2025

Chinese New Year Parade - London 2025

I documented the annual Chinese New Year Parade in London with my cameras. The light and weather was brilliant.

Last Sunday, the annual Chinese New Year parade took place in central London, and of course, I had to document it with my camera(s). Luckily, we were absolutely blessed with brilliant weather and fantastic light throughout the day.

I packed three camera / lens combinations for that day, each for a different purpose and way of photographing.

Nikon Z6 & Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8
Even though, I visited the parade last year, I wasn't really sure what to expect and how close I get to the parade. For situations like this, the 28-75mm is perfect. It's very versatile, but most of the time I used it at 75mm.

Nikon F100 & Nikon 35mm f/2 AF-D
The F100 can do everything automatically, so in my opinion it is perfect for a fast-paced setting like this. I packed this along with Kodak Gold 200, which is my favourite film stock for sunny days.

Ricoh GR IIIx (40mm)
I packed this just in case and because I have it with me basically anytime. Also, it weights nothing and I just had it in my pocket.I did not use these cameras in parallel. I focused on one camera for a while, while the others were in my backpack.

As I said, the weather and light was fantastic and the overall vibe of the parade was really cool and relaxed. But even under those perfect conditions, I struggled a bit to get some decent photos during and around the parade. I often feel overwhelmed during these super busy events and crowded places. It feels hard to focus and tough to find little moments worth capturing even though they are all around. So I try to challenge myself and go to these kinds of events more often to practice.

However, I’m surprisingly pleased with the photos I took during and around the parade this year, but there is definitely room for improvement and things I want to do differently next time.

Now, let's have a look at some more of the pictures from that day.
